Sommelier Pick of the Week: 2009 Ch. Rauzan-Ségla, Ségla 2nd, Cab Blend

When it comes to December, I like to start thinking about Bordeaux wines. A good place to start is picking the 2nd wine from a good winery; a good winery being from a first or second growth. These wines are made from the same grapes as flagship wines, but are available  for a more accessible price.

A classic Margaux from Bordeaux, France, this blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot reveals complex aromas of dried citrus fruit, with very ripe plums and currants. It is medium to full-bodied with sweet but abundant tannin, and beautiful purity, texture and equilibrium, the 2009 Rauzan Segla will provide enjoyable drinking over the next three decades.

Food Pairing Recommendations:Pairing: Any meat or earthy vegetable dish.
