Sommelier Pick of the Week: 2014 Merry Edwards Pinot Noir
The colder it gets, the more I want red wine, and for my first pick in a few months I had to go with a beautiful and complex pinot noir. The Merry Edwards 2014 pinot starts with its aroma, where it showcases the ripe and jammy fruits that make up its palate. It is mostly built around cool-area fruits—huckleberries, currants, strawberries, and raspberries. There is also an added warmth from notes of Mexican cocoa, chai, cinnamon, and nutmeg and a touch of roasted nuts and minerals that add a backdrop of earthiness. This wine is going to have a bit more tannins and body than your typical pinot, making it a treat for pinot lovers.
Food pairing recommendations: roasted poultry such as chicken or turkey
